President’s Corner November 2021

Reaching for the sky!

I can hardly believe that November is here. I hope that your school year is going well despite the many challenges we face each day. The ASC Board and our new Executive Director have been hard at work in redefining our organizations’ purpose and priority. We are committed to supporting our members and determined to positively impact the educational system in Milwaukee. Take a moment to review our new purpose and priorities document

Purpose & Priorities of ASC, we thank you in advance for your continued support.

ASC has recently become a member of Common Ground; Who We Are — Common Ground. Common Ground is a like minded organization that will support ASC’s efforts. As members of Common Ground we will be supported as we tackle some of the most difficult challenges in MPS. Common Ground’s Educational Team is dedicated to supporting the district’s administrators and will also offer opportunities for our administrators to support city wide educational efforts. Our first initiative with Common Ground is organizing a membership campaign. Increasing our membership will increase our relational power within the district. We will need your help to make our campaign successful, stay tuned for more information in the next coming months.

The ASC Board recently voted on this year’s Meet and Confer platform. We will again use our Meet and Confer Platform

21-22 Meet & Confer Platform .pdf to engage on a monthly basis with the MPS administration. This platform will allow ASC to engage in monthly problem solving sessions with Dr. Cotton and her team to help improve working conditions for our administrators and supervisors. I ask that you continue to contact your ASC Board members and our Executive Director to share specific concerns that you feel need to be addressed on behalf of our members.

We are excited for new projects and programs that will support our ASC members. In an effort to support our new administrators we are excited to kick off our new Mentor/ Mentee Program. Under the leadership of ASC retiree; Jackie Laber our retirees are eager to be partnered up with our new administrators to provide support and guidance. In the next coming months ASC will unveil its new and improved interactive website that will include our very own listserv. Our new Executive Director has been very busy facilitating our new initiative and working behind the scenes to ensure that we get the job done! I thank you in advance for all your support and look forward to working with you during our membership campaign. Until then take care of yourself, lead with patience, kindness and never doubt your leadership abilities.

Marybell Nieves Harris, President
